Lady Trojans nearly double up Twin Cedars in win

With the conclusion of the regular season right around the corner, the Lady Trojans have been looking for a way to end off on a high note. They traveled to Twin Cedars on February 2, hoping to put all the pieces together, and ended up leaving with a resounding 47-24 win.

For most of the season, the Lady Trojan defense has been the better part of the team and continued to do so early on against Twin Cedars. When the offense couldn't get much going, the defense was able to limit the number of shots that Twin Cedars took, also getting some steals along the way. The first two quarters saw relatively low scoring, as both teams were tied at 12 heading into the half.

"We were able to get a lot of shot opportunities in the first half," Lady Trojans coach Chad Little said. "We just couldn't knock down as many as we had hoped, and that kept the game close."

Some adjustments were made at halftime, including the choice to apply stingier defensive pressure on Twin Cedars. The pressure led to more turnovers and thus more chances for the offense to score. Twin Cedars was limited to three points in the third quarter, while the offense was able to find a consistent rhythm to the tune of 18 points.

"We know with our team what we need to do to be successful, and the girls made it happen," coach Little said.

The fourth quarter saw more success for the offense, putting up another 17 points, while holding Twin Cedars to just nine. In total, the Lady Trojans had 26 steals, which had a major impact on number of possessions for the opposition. The 47 points generated by the offense were the most points scored in any game this season, and the 23-point difference was the largest win of the season.

"This is a great confidence game to come off of going into next week and hopefully we can keep it going," coach Little said. "The team works hard to improve and it's great to have it come together for them."

Emma Miover led the team with 14 points, in addition to six steals, two rebounds and one assist. Allison Steinke, one of the more consistent scorers, had 13 points before fouling out. She also had seven steals, five rebounds and three assists. Mersadie Little, Riley Danner and Skyler Fisher had six points apiece, while Hannah Miover had two points. Mersadie had a team-high eight steals, seven rebounds and three assists on the night. Danner and Fisher combined for 10 rebounds, four assists and four steals.

"Skyler leads our defense night in and night out, and did so against Twin Cedars," coach Little said. "We got another nice performance from Allison, and it was great to see Emma break through and see results from her hard work."

The Lady Trojans looked to build off the win and finish off the regular season with a winning streak when they played HLV on February 5. They will then face English Valleys on February 8 in the first round of districts.
