Andreassen fans six in loss to Sigourney

English Valleys only got the chance to play one game in week five of the baseball season and that was against Sigourney on June 18. The Bears fell behind early against the Savages and couldn’t manage to climb out of the hole which ended in a 1-14 loss.

Sigourney put up five quick runs in the first couple innings of play before EV cracked down defensively. Despite giving up the six runs, half of which were charged to the starting pitcher, Cooper Andreassen still finished out his day with six strikeouts in three innings of work.

In the top half of the fourth Tanner Mihal replaced Andreassen on the mound. Mihal tossed one inning, allowed five hits and struck out one. English Valleys got a run back in the bottom half of the inning but couldn’t do any more damage going forth. Heading into the fifth inning, EV was down 1-6. In that final inning of play Sigourney rattled off eight runs while EV was kept scoreless to end the game.

    Bear leaders: Tanner Mihal/John Fisher/Jacob Glandon/Cael Hester – 1 hit, Beau Flander – 1 run, Beau Flander/Cael Hester – 1 SB, Cooper Andreassen – 6 Ks

English Valleys was scheduled to play at Keota on June 20 and then host Iowa Valley on June 22 but both games were postponed due to weather. The Bears didn’t face another opponent until June 25 when they traveled to Belle Plaine then hosted HLV on June 26.
