Jan. 7 - Lynnville-Sully 67, English Valleys 57

NORTH ENGLISH — 26 second-quarter points by the Lynnville-Sully Hawks was too much to overcome for the English Valleys boys basketball team, as they fell at home 67-57 on Jan. 7.

The Hawks gained a 14-8 advantage through one quarter, before extending that lead in the second, outscoring Caleb Lewis’ Bears 26-18 in the second frame. Facing a 40-26 deficit at halftime, EV tried their best to claw back into the game, but they were ultimately bested by L-S.

Junior Hayden Irmen paced the Bears in scoring with 15 points. He also secured seven rebounds in the loss. Kaden Hall and Cole Stephenson were the other EV scorers in double figures with 12 points apiece. Hall once again secured a double-double, adding 10 rebounds to his point total.

Senior Nolan Grove scored a season-high eight points for the home team. Beau Flander (six points) and Brayden Mikesell (four points) rounded out the scoring for EV.

Though EV shot efficiently (44 percent from the field and 33 percent from 3), their defense could not limit the Hawks. For just the fourth time this season, the Bears gave up 60 or more points.

The loss dropped EV to 4-6 on the season.
