Barthelman's push Sigourney to third-place tie

The Lady Savages faced some tough competition on May 1 when they traveled to Lynnville-Sully to run in the SICL meet. They racked up 81 points on the evening, with a combined 46 coming from Autum and Summer Barthelman, which put them in a tie with Belle Plaine for third place in the standings.

Autum earned most of her points from her two 100-meter events, one being the open 100m and the other being the 100m hurdles. In the open 100m dash, Autum sprinted down the straightaway to cross the finish line at the 12.81 mark, taking first place by over one second. She followed that up with another impressive first-place finish in the 100m hurdles, running a time of 15.78 seconds.

Summer had her best finish of the day in the 400m hurdles, her signature event. She got out to a commanding lead in the opening 150 meters but couldn’t hold off a charging Maci Boots, the only girl who came in with a faster finish. Summer was able to cut down on her own time by a half second by running 1:08.75 to take second-place in the event. Off the track, she tallied another top-five finish in the long jump, measuring at 15’-10.00” to take second and earn Sigourney eight points.

The Barthelman’s, along with Heidi Clarahan and Brooke Waechter, ran another winning time in the 4x100m relay, which they had run at the Drake Relays just days prior. The relay group came in with their best time at 52.46 seconds, which they ran at Drake, and were able to run a time of 52.69 seconds to take first by nearly one second.

Sigourney picked up another 10 points by winning the 400m shuttle hurdle relay with their team made up of Autum, Leah Carter, Sloane Magill and Summer. The Lady Savages led from wire to wire, holding their lead with each leg. They ran a time of 1:08.78 to easily take first and beat Lynnville-Sully by over half a second.
