City, School Candidates will run unopposed

It appears that the trend will continue for Sigourney elections, as voters will not have any races to decide. Of the four positions on the ballot for Sigourney City Office, three will see unopposed incumbents, and one did not have a candidate file to run. At-Large incumbent Jimmie Morlan will run for a full second-term on the Sigourney City Council. Morlan has served since 2016.

Incumbent Connie McLaughlin will also seek another term as third-ward city councilor. Mc- Lauhglin. She has served since 2011 on the council. Also seeking re-election is 1st ward councilor Ed Conrad. He too will run unopposed. Residents will also vote on the 4th ward city council position, however nobody will be listed on the ballot. By the filing deadline on September 19, no candidates submitted paperwork, meaning that a write-in campaign will be required. City Clerk Angie Alderson said that she intended to check with the Iowa League of Cities as to if there were any additional requirements required for Sigourney for the fourthward council position. Mayor Doug Glandon, who is not up for re-election this year, said he encourages residents to consider running for the position.

“I believe it’s important in a small-town for people to get involved in their community,” Glandon said.
