Clean sweep for Pekin at conference meet

FAIRFIELD — As the postseason nears, the Pekin Panthers cross-country team is gearing up for yet another trip to the state competition. Davis Eidahl’s runners put together another strong showing on Monday at Waterworks Park in Fairfield against 15 of their SEISC counterparts. Both the girls and the boys were able to capture the crown in the team competitions for Pekin.

The meet started with the boys race. A pair of Pekin teammates were once again at or near the front of the pack. Brady Millikin and Colten Glosser jockeyed for position at the front of the race throughout. Ultimately, it was Millikin who claimed the top time on Monday, crossing the line in just 16:51. Glosser was right behind him, finishing just eight seconds later.

Pekin’s next three runners — Zack Wise, Tanner Conger, and Gavyn Brown — each garnered top-15 finishes. The team narrowly edged Danville-New London for total score, 39 to 44. Coach Eidahl was impressed with his boys finally getting over the Danville hump.
