Colfax-Mingo treys too much for Tri-County

The Tri-County girls kept things close for a majority of the game when they hosted Colfax-Mingo on January 12. The biggest difference was once Colfax-Mingo started to get hot from behind the arc, which led to a 35-49 loss for the Lady Trojans.

Tri-County started things off on the right foot, as their defense was able to keep Colfax-Mingo out of sorts, while their offense converted on several early possessions. Good ball movement led to finding an open girl in the paint or kicking it out to someone open mid-range. The Lady Trojans had a 12-10 lead after the first quarter concluded.

More of the same results occurred in the second quarter, as Tri-County was able to stay aggressive on both ends of the floor. They would swarm to the ball, often double or triple teaming Colfax-Mingo when they could, and found themselves at the free throw line multiple times on offense. Some conversions there, along with a couple big threes, had Tri-County down 19-20 heading into the half.

Colfax-Mingo began to get hot from behind the arc in the third quarter, and continued to feed the hot shooter. Tri-County couldn't find much success on the offensive end either, which led to a growing deficit as the quarter wore on. Colfax-Mingo put up 21 points, and had a 41-24 lead heading into the final minutes.

Tri-County was able to put together a good final quarter of play, but it wouldn’t be enough. The Lady Trojans began to press late in the game, hoping to disrupt Colfax-Mingo's offense, and at times it did. When they were able to break the press, the height advantage the Lady Tigerhawks had proved to be too much. Tri-County finished out the game outscoring Colfax-Mingo 11-8 in the final quarter, but still fell 35-49.

Allison Steinke led Tri-County with 18 points, including nine points from behind the arc. Steinke also had seven rebounds and four steals. Riley Danner and Skyler Fisher had five points apiece, while combining for six rebounds, three assists, three steals and one block. Emma Miover finished the night with seven rebounds, three assists, two steals, two points and one block. Mersadie Little and Hannah Miover rounded out the scoring while also combining for eight rebounds, three assists, two steals and one block.

The Lady Trojans hoped to rebound when they traveled to face Belle Plaine on January 16.
