Cross country seasons near end

With the district meet around the corner, the E.V. and Sigourney cross country teams don't have much more time to compete. They traveled to Kalona on Monday, October 2, and ran at the Iowa Mennonite Wellman golf course.

Clara Mews led the way for the E.V. girls, finishing in 41st place, midway through the field of runners, with a time of 24:58.05. Brooke Coffman ran a time of 25:13.55, ending up in 44th place. Megan Glandon was the next E.V. girls to finish in 62nd, with a time of 27:59.58. Liberty Lightfoot rounded out the team with a 70th place finish at the 29:10.20 mark.

Three E.V. runners competed in the varsity boys race. Jacob Glandon, the team leader for most of the season, was the first Bear to finish. He finished with a time of 19:16.25, putting him in 28th place. Next up was Luis Gonzalez, getting his first chance to run at the varsity level. Gonzalez finished in 64th place, with a time of 22:27.51. Sage Coffman (78th) was the last Bear to finish at the 24:27.53 mark.

Neither Bear's team had enough runners to be considered for team placement.

Sigourney was also in attendance, the boy's taking eighth place, and the girl's taking ninth.

Tristan Bell and Paul Montgomery continued to run some solid times, representing the Savages in the boys' competition. Bell finished in 29th with a time of 19:20.53, while Montgomery took 30th with a time of 19:20.84.

The next Savage to cross was Dawson Webster (22:07.29) in 60th place. Mason Dye (22:10.99) was right behind him in 61st, while Jake Ives (22:21.26) was close behind in 63rd. Other runners included Trace Bell (24:16.54) in 77th and Ricky Danowsky (25:28.15) in 80th place.

The Sigourney girls all finished in the bottom half of the field, with Summer Barthelman getting the best time of 24:54.71, ending up in 40th place. Lainey Graff finished a-ways behind Barthelman, with a time of 27:17.75 and putting her in 58th.

Three of the final four Savages finished closer in a pack-like group, almost within a minute of each other. Autum Barthelman (28:49.47) finished in 67th, Cami Thompson (28:56.96) finished in 69th and Megan Stuhr (29:55.97) finished in 71st place. The final Savage to cross was Morgan Clubb (32:28.05) taking 75th place.

English Valleys had one more competition at Montezuma later in the week, while Sigourney had a break before the upcoming district meet at Colfax-Mingo on October 12.
