Delta Days Grand Marshals: Carl and Maxine Martin

Through five children, ten grandchildren, and 12 great-grandchildren, Carl and Maxine Martin have remained together for over 65 years.

Married December 24, 1951, after Carl returned home from serving in Korea, he knew that Maxine was the woman he wanted to spend his life with.

“She wrote me while I was gone. I left August 27, 1947 for a three year term. On the day I was suppose to come home, orders came through and I had to stay for another year, but she stood by my side continuing to write. When I returned home, it all fell into place, “ Carl reflects.

Maxine says, “ You know the saying of opposites attract. Well that could not be any more true in our case. “

After returning home from Korea, Carl and Maxine lived in Sigourney for a brief moment until buying a farm outside of Delta.

“It had a pond. We didn’t farm, we rented it out and baled the hay. We then decided to move into town. We would buy a house, fix it up and then eventually we found this house where we settled. We completely redid the home. We bought all of the windows from Rolscreen after I retired,” Maxine said.
