English Valleys defense can't hold down Baxter

For the second time this season English Valleys played a quality opponent and came up short. This time, the Bears traveled to play Baxter on Friday, Sept. 8.

Coming off a big win against highly ranked Twin Cedars, the Bears took on Baxter, another powerhouse team. E.V. averaged 40 points in their first three games of the season, and put up 40 more in the loss to Baxter.

Many things did go right for the Bears, including an all-out performance by Cael Hester. He led the way mostly with his arm, with 222 yards and three scores. He also rushed for 66 yards and another score.

On the receiving end Brayden Fisher and Seth Thompson each hauled in Hester's scores. Fisher had four receptions for 101 yards and two scores, while Thompson had three catches for 44 yards and the other score. Derek Dulaney also finished with one carry, going 49 yards for a touchdown.

Though the defense gave up 62 points, there were stand out performances. Cooper Andreassen led his team with nine tackles, six solo and one for a loss of yards. Thompson also accumulated eight tackles, seven solo.

The Bears had success getting in the backfield at times, sacking the opponents quarterback three times. Hester was responsible for two of those sacks, while John Fisher got the third. Hester had five solo tackles, four of which went for loss of yards. Fisher had five solo tackles, three going for lost yards.

English Valleys will play in front of their home crowd again when they host Lone Tree on Sept. 15.
