English Valleys rounds out SICL meet with several quality finishes

Clayton Moore has been a consistent leader for the English Valleys boys’ track squad all season and continued to do so at the conference meet in Lynnville-Sully on May 1. Alongside him, many teammates combined to get some quality finishes with seasons end right around the corner.

The best finish of the day was in the 400-meter hurdles, which was run by Moore. He ran the third-fastest time in the event at 1:00.17. He was one second off the pace for second but was able to easily secure his spot by almost two seconds over third place. He also on the 1600m DMR team and helped his team take seventh, picking up two team points, with a combined time of 4:11.80.

Several guys finished just outside the top-10 in their respective events including Cooper Andreassen, Seth Thompson, Nolan Grove, John Fisher and Cael Hester.     “I expected us to continue to compete and work on PR’s and we did that,” EV coach Becky Becker said. “We’ve had a slew of injuries this year which has really set us back. I believe we had a chance at a top-six placing, but injuries derailed that.”

Grove finished up in 12th place in the 400m dash, clocking in with a time of 59.98. More of the same from Fisher and Hester as they finished 12th in the 800m run and 13th in the 110m hurdles respectively. Fisher finished up with a time of 2:28.05 and Hester crossed the finish line at 20.46 seconds.

English Valleys had two boys finish within the top 10 but just outside of picking up points in their field events. Fisher had the ninth-best throw in the discus at 106’-2.00” while Jacob Jackson took ninth with a throw of 38’-0.50” in the shot put.

This team has grown tremendously and the new members have really begun to understand there’s more to it than just running.”
