English Valleys spoils Trojans Homecoming

Tri-County fell behind early in their Homecoming game against English Valleys and were unable to claw their way back, taking the 0-66 loss. The Trojans lost more than the game, they lost Tegon Fogle, a pivotal player who was taken out in the first half via ambulance. They did get some good news near the end of the game when they heard Fogle’s CT scan came back negative.

The Homecoming game began as the Trojans kicked the ball to English Valleys with Cooper Andreassen receiving the ball just outside the red zone. He took possession at the 32-yard line and managed to find some blocking upfield. He then busted through the Trojans special teams and turned on the jets to sprint down the sideline to find the end zone. The Trojans were unable to do much with their first possession of the game and soon had to kick the ball back to the Bears.

It didn’t take long for the Bears to add on another score as Seth Thompson took the end around on a reverse handoff for 75 yards. English Valleys went for their second two-point conversion of the game and failed but held a 14-0 lead early in the first. Things took a turn for the worse for Tri-County as they faced another quick fourth down. A high snap almost resulted in a fumble in their own red zone, but Fogle tried to salvage it by picking up the loose ball and run along the sideline and dive towards the first-down marker. He led headfirst and was met with a hard collision, which left him laying on the turf for a few minutes.

Fogle was put on a backboard and then placed into an ambulance and taken away for further evaluation. Despite putting in the effort, Fogle came up just short of converting on the long fourth down, which led to a turnover on downs. Caleb Peach tacked on a touchdown for the Bears to make the score 22-0. Peach not only converted on a first down on third and 12, rushing for 38 yards to get into the endzone.

English Valleys continued to dictate the game and added some insult to injury by keeping their offense on the field on fourth and long. The offense spread out the field, intending to find an open receiver down the field. Cael Hester, Bears QB, waited just long enough in the pocket until the field opened in front of him and then took off, running the ball near the sideline, picking up the first down and then some. Andreassen tacked on another score for himself as he made his way through the defense for 13 yards into the endzone. After a successful conversion, the Bears led 30-0 with just over one minute left in the first quarter.

Tri-County went through their first couple plays quick with a run out of bounds and a dropped pass, netting a couple yards. A misplayed snap led to a Tri-County turnover and soon after that the Bears had scored yet again, just 15 yards out this time. With 11 seconds left, the score stood at 38-0 with English Valleys in front. The Bears would add on another three scores in the second quarter, one coming from Hester, one from Andreassen and one from their defense.

Andreassen busted through the defensive line and was quickly into the secondary, stiff arming the one man he had left to beat to get into the endzone. The Bears’ final score in the first half came from a fumble recovery. Early on in one of the Trojans’ drives, a snap sailed over the QB’s head and he couldn’t recover it, as Derek Dulaney of English Valleys scooped up the loose ball and ran it in for the touchdown.

English Valleys would add on one more score in the second half, while maintaining their shutout of the depleted Trojans. When it was all said and done, the scoreboard had English Valleys with 66 points and Tri-County with zero.

The Trojans were led by Dayton Pace, who took over at QB for the injured Fogle, completing two of his eight passes for 16 yards. Brayden Monroe hauled in three passes for 16 yards and added another 11 yards on the ground for the Trojans.

Monroe led the defense with seven tackles, six solo tackles and four tackles for a loss of yards. Pace had six tackles, all solo, and two tackles for a loss of yards. Ty Moore also had three tackles, all solo and Fogle had one tackle assist before leaving the game.

English Valleys relied on their running game to do the brunt of the damage on the field. Eight different players combined to rush for 320 yards and seven scores. Andreassen ran for 92 yards and three scores, in addition to his opening kickoff runback for a TD. Thompson had his lone rush for 55 yards end up with a score and Beau Flander also ripped off a 40-yard dash to get in the endzone. Peach had two carries for 50 yards and one score, Hester had 42 yards and one score and Kaden Hall, Sam Kingland and Brayden Mikesell combined for the other 41 yards.

Thompson led the defense with 5.5 tackles, five solo tackles and Kaden Hal had 4.5 tackles, three solo tackles, to lead the team. Nolan Grove had 3.5 tackles, three solo tackles and one tackle for loss of yards while Daniel Tapken also had three tackles, two solo tackles on the game. Raif Axmear was the lone Bear to record a solo sack, while he also had one sack assist, as did Kaden Kubas.

The Trojans will look to regroup when they travel to New London on September 21, while English Valleys will try to build off their strong season start by traveling to face Montezuma.
