Guns, Games and Gatherings

High heat didn’t stop a group of thirty-four children and their families from enjoying festivities at the home of Joe and Linda Keasling.  For the fifth consecutive year, the Keaslings have been hosting the gun shoot for children.  This fun event not only helps children learn to shoot, but focuses on safety procedures that they should maintain while doing so.  Children from the ages of one all the way up to seventeen were able to shoot with air soft guns, bb guns, pellet guns and more. 

Joe and Linda provided food along with games and activities to do while children were waiting their turn to take a shot at their target.   Many of the days activities were paid for by Joe and Linda but a few people have donated games and activities while Donna Shea provides snowcones, a treat that all of the children enjoy.

The cost to participate in this event was a small toy with a value of five to ten dollars.  Families were also encouraged to bring a small dish of food to share as well.  This ensures that everyone is able to leave with something.  However, the winner of each age category with the best shots on the target leaves with a brand new gun.   There are four age brackets.  Brighton Wear says, “ I won a gun and this was the first time I had ever shot a gun.  I am a natural.”  Joe takes the time to show each individual child the proper way to site in a gun as well as proper holding procedure, and always ensures that they have the proper safety equipment on as well.
