Heartbreak at Highland

HIGHLAND – As the Pekin Panthers (2-4) consoled each other following their heartbreaking 25-24 loss to Highland (4-2) last Friday, October 4, junior Cael Lyle stressed to his teammates that they need to remember the feeling of this loss and utilize it for motivation next week when they take on BGM.

The reason for the Panthers disappointment stemmed from a chaotic finish to their Iowa Class A District 6 showdown.

With the final 30 seconds winding down Highland spiked the ball at the one-yard line to stop the clock. After two crucial stops by the Panther defense, Highland hurried to the line for one last scoring attempt.

Highland quarterback Connor Grinstead dropped the snap before scooping up the ball and lunging forward. Grinstead was met by a wall of Panther defenders as the two teams piled up at the goal line.
