Honoring our Veterans

Each year our community holds several programs to honor our veterans. The events this year were held at Pekin Community School, Sigourney Community School and Tri-County. Each program had participation from the students as well as a guest speaker.

            The guest speaker at Pekin was Captain Christopher Fiske. He told the audience that Veterans Day was important to him for many reason but it also signifies his family becoming American. His grandfather moved to America from Denmark because this is the “Land of opportunity” when he got here we were going into World War I, so he enlisted even though he was not an American Citizen. On November 11, when the war was over, he was given citizenship for fighting for our country. Mr. White and the chorus sang “The Star Spangled banner” as well as “A Tribute To The Armed Forces”.
