Lady Panthers ousted by Pella Christian

Pella Christian has been kryptonite when it comes to playing against area teams in the postseason. Last year the Eagles eliminated the Lady Panthers in post season volleyball play but the Lady Panthers turned around and managed to avenge their defeat when the girls’ basketball team picked up a rare win over the Eagles. The two met up once again for Regionals on February 13 at Sigourney, with the Eagles proving to be too much in a 66-53 defeat.

Pekin kept things close early but got edged out 15-13 at the conclusion of the first quarter. They stayed consistent throughout the night in terms of scoring per quarter, as did Pella Christian until late. The two were neck-and-neck going into the half with the Eagles holding a slim 31-28 lead.

The Lady Panthers pushed back in the third quarter to beat out the Eagles 14-13 and cut their deficit down to two points. As close as the game was with one quarter to go, things started to unravel in the final minutes. Pekin tied the game up with five minutes to play but a cold streak allowed Pella Christian to retake the lead. From there, it was the Eagles that finished out the game strong, resulting in a 66-53 defeat for the Lady Panthers, thanks to a 22-11 quarter for the Eagles.
