Lady Panthers win Savage Relays

The Lady Panthers continued their dominate season on the track by winning another meet, this time at the Sigourney Relays on April 23. A plethora of Panthers earned big points, resulting in a team total 155 points, beating their competition by at least 50 points.

Seven girls finished with double-digit points and another four were just short of joining the list. Lauren Derscheid led the way by taking second in the 1500m run at 5:24.57 (personal best) and 3000m run with a time of 11:42.21 (personal best). Zoey Wright had a nice night on the track, taking second in the 100m dash with 13.53 seconds and helped her team to multiple top-three finishes in relay events.

Pekin also won a handful of events including the 800m run by Cari Duwa, clocking in at 2:35.34 (personal best), the best throw of 116’-2.00” by Kerrigan Pope in the Discus (personal best) and Ellie Ledger won the High Jump at the 4’-8.00” mark.

In terms of relays, Pekin won the 4x100m weight person relay with a time of 1:01.18. They also won the 4x400m relay with Sarah Eubanks, Hollie Loper, Wright and Remi Duwa running a time of 4:27.73, along with the 4x800m relay with Maddie Black, Remi, Emily Laumeyer and Loper running for 10:52.49. Pekin also won the 800m Sprint Medley with Wright, Sophie Wittrock, Hunter Lock and Eubanks running a time of 2:01.32 and finished first in the DMR with Lock, Gracie Baetsle, Cari and Remi running a time of 4:37.00 (personal best).

Pekin next competed at Cardinal on April 26 and will head to Mediapolis on May 2 for their Conference Meet.
