Lady Savages dominate on Parent's Night

SIGOURNEY – Sigourney High School played host for Parent’s Night last Thursday for the team’s matchup with English Valleys. After the pre-game festivities, the Lady Bears jumped out to a 2-0 lead to start the match behind back-to-back aces by Olivia Heyne. But that would be the only lead EV would hold all night long, as Chris Carter’s group rolled to a 25-19, 25-9, 25-13 win.

“I was really happy with how we played tonight,” Carter said. We played really loose which is good because we haven’t been playing loose. We really focused on defense, pushing and tipping low and flat and with more angles, and serve receive. I think, in all three areas, we improved a ton on that tonight.”

Sigourney used strong serving to set the tone for the match. The Lady Savages notched 17 aces on the night. English Valleys struggled to return many of Sigourney’s serves, leading to easy points throughout. Sigourney also put a lot more hard hits toward the defense than EV. Coach Becky Becker was proud of the effort put forth by her team, but her team is still making too many mistakes.
