Lady Savages extend win streak to six games

The Lady Savages played a three games in the span of two days, including a double-header on February 2 against Washington and Iowa Valley, both on the road. They won all three games, with their most recent a 46-31 victory over Iowa Valley.

Home vs Belle Plaine – Feb. 1

Sigourney found themselves down early against the Plainsmen with a stagnant first quarter but exploded in the second with a 15-point outburst to go into the half 18-11. They matched Belle Plaine in the third with eight points each and edged out the Plainsmen 13-12 in the fourth to win a close one 39-31.

At Washington – Feb 2

Sigourney was once again down early with a slow start and it didn’t get better in the second quarter as they went into the half trailing 14-5. Their offense managed to find some rhythm in the third, putting up 14 points to tie the score at 19-19. Sigourney scored eight points in the fourth and more importantly, held Washington to seven points, earning a 27-26 win.

At Iowa Valley – Feb 2

Despite playing their second game on the road in the same day, the Lady Savages didn’t have as much trouble against the Tigers. They overcame their cold starts to score 10 in the first quarter and 13 in the second, going into the half leading 23-15. The Lady Savages got some breathing room in the third quarter by putting up 16 points while holding the Tigers to six. Iowa Valley did out-score Sigourney in the fourth 10-7, but the Lady Savages had done their damage to win it 46-31.

Sigourney opened their final week of the regular season on the road by facing Albia on February 4 and will make-up their game against Pekin on February 9.
