Lady Trojans winless no more

THORNBURG – Just three days after the Keota Eagles won their first volleyball match of the season, the Lady Trojans of Tri-County flipped the script on Keota, winning their first volleyball match of the season in four sets. If you add this year’s first 13 games to last year’s 21 without a win, and then factor in the final six games of 2017, Tri-County hadn’t won a volleyball match in 40 straight. That changed last Thursday night.

Victoria Heady’s team put together a solid all-around effort, taking the match in four sets, 25-23, 25-18, 20-25, and 27-25. Mariah Little filled up the stat sheet for Tri-County, collecting six kills, nine blocks, two digs, and one ace. Her nine blocks were especially eye-popping, considering she had blocked 12 shots total in the team’s previous 13 games.

Fittingly, senior Miranda Little led the team in assists with five. She also contributed four kills, two digs, and one ace. Another senior, Emma Movier, continued doing the dirty work for her team as she’s done all year long, coming away with 10 digs and four aces. Everything came together perfectly for Heady’s squad, and she equates that to the team’s willingness to keep fighting.
