Lagos Acres welcomes 10 XC teams

KEOTA – It was a hot day with a slight breeze last Monday in Keota, where 10 local cross-country teams competed at Lagos Acres Golf Course. Sigourney, English Valleys, and Keota all competed in the meet.

Isaac Knockel of North Mahaska claimed the top time for the boys in 19 minutes and 53 seconds, while Cheyanne Shaw, also of North Mahaska, took the top spot for the girls, with a time of 21 minutes and 52 seconds. Bryson Grove of English Valleys and Mason Moore of Sigourney secured top-10 finishes, coming across the line in fourth and seventh place respectively. On the girls side, EV’s Maddie Koehn narrowly missed a top-10 finish, placing 11th, with a time of 28 minutes and six seconds. EV coach Luke Caster was pleased with his team’s efforts.

“The girls varsity runners ran a good race. Maddie Koehn is continuing to get stronger. Nevaeh Briggs has been working so hard to improve, and her hard work is paying off. Megan Glandon had a competitive performance. Bryson Grove has been improving in each of our meets. Luis Gonzalez is working his way back from injury. Baylor Wiseman ran a much better race and finished in 38th place. Overall, I was proud of how we competed, and I can't wait to see how hard we will work to improve.”
