Long set to retire from Keokuk Co. Conservation

After 23 years as Executive Director of Keokuk County Conservation, David Long has decided to step down from his position, effective April 3, to enjoy spending more time with loved ones.

            “The decision to retire was to spend more time with my family,” Long said. “I’ve had to work weekends for 30 years, and I have a son that’s 13 that wants to do stuff in the summertime. Instead of working, I’ll be able to do that. 30 years is long enough to do one thing.”

            Curtis ”Pie” Reighard will assume Long’s duties upon retirement, with the County Board of Supervisors approving the hiring of Stratton Bond for Reighard’s position as a Naturalist/Ranger. As Long prepares to retire, he is confident Keokuk County’s parks are in good hands.

“I would like to see the parks maintained as they are now,” Long said. “I don’t want to leave and see things go backwards, but it’s not going to with the staff with have now. Pie Reighard has been with me for 20 years and Brian Ulin for 10 years, so they know how things should be done when Pie takes over.”
