Panthers impress at state once again

FORT DODGE — Another year, another top-10 finish at the Iowa state cross-country meet for both Pekin’s girls and boys. 2019 marks the 16th consecutive time that Pekin’s girls have competed at the state meet and the seventh straight for the boys. Davis Eidahl’s runners made the trek up to Fort Dodge on Saturday to test their endurance against the best of the best in Class 1A. The girls came away with a ninth-place finish, while the boys captured 10th place.

Sophomore Lily Fariss led the way for Pekin’s girls, garnering a 28th-place finish with a time of 20:26.6. Lauren Derscheid wasn’t far behind, finishing in 34th with a time of 20:38.9. The remaining Pekin runners finished as follows: Sarah Eubanks - 90th, 21:59.8; Mia Clark - 94th, 22:12.0; Sabrina Reneker - 98th, 22:16.4; Emily Laumeyer - 111th, 22:50.9; Lilly Reneker - 121st, 23:30.0. As a team, Pekin finished with 211 points. The first-place team, Logan-Magnolia, had a total of 112. Pekin’s average time per runner was 21:30.8. Eidahl was happy to see the gradual improvement from his girls this year.
