Passion Projects outline EV students' interests

Junior and senior high students at English Valleys put their passions out on display for teachers, peers and community members as the district hosted their very first Passion Projects showcase in the school gym and cafeteria on Wednesday, April 19.

A Passion Project, according to K-12 Principal Heather Lightfoot and instructor Pam Nachtman, allows students to develop a presentation about what they truly are interested in, whether it be a potential career choice or simply an interesting hobby of their’s. The students mostly created their presentation on PowerPoint through their laptops, showing off their week’s worth of research and creations to their teachers.

“This is the first year that we are doing a Passion Projects showcase and we are really excited about it,” Lightfoot said. “This is something the kids have been working on since September. Sometimes they’ll stick with a topic and sometimes they’ll change. They choose a topic that interests them. It’s not a graded thing, but it is an expectation just to go above and beyond to teach us and became the resident expert.”
