Pekin school board reviews architects ahead of bond election

The Pekin Board of Education held a work session on Wednesday, Jan. 25 to meet with three recommended architects for the potential projects that make up the $5.5 million bond referendum.

After receiving interest from six architects, Pekin Superintendent Dave Harper and Doug Ziegler from Carl A. Nelson chose to have three present in front of the whole school board; DLR Group of Omaha, Faithe-Built Architecture of Ottumwa, and SVPA Architects of West Des Moines. Each architect gave a 45-minute presentation to the Board, much like candidates for the Construction Manager did last month and ended with Carl A. Nelson chosen for the potential role. Board members were also able to ask questions of each presenter, as Ziegler fielded questions as well.

“We were looking for someone experienced with educational facilities with a proven track record of staying on budget and schedule,” Harper said. “It’s important to us find an architects that has experience with working with a construction manager, as well as insurance of adequate work and oversight if they would be chosen.”
