Recycling center operating under limited hours

SIGOURNEY- As the transition to Cox Sanitation from Waste Management takes place, the Keokuk County Recycling Center, located south of Sigourney, is currently operated under limited hours until August 1st, until a DNR permit can be obtained for the facility. According to the Keokuk County Supervisors, the facility is currently open from 7 a.m. to 12 p.m. Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. The facility is also open from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. on Saturdays. Right now, the facility is NOT accepting garbage, and is instead only accepting household garbage.

“It’s garbage only at this time,” Supervisor Deke Wood said on Monday.

According to Wood and Hadley, the hope is for the facility to be fully operational under new ownership beginning August 1st. At that time, the facility will be able to be used at no charge by rural residents only, meaning residents who do not live in an incorporated community, such as Sigourney or Keota. Residents of incorporated communities will be able to use the facility beginning on August 1, however they will be required to purchase Cox Sanitation bags to put their garbage and recycling materials in.
