Reeves wraps up season 5th at Regionals

Kaleb Reeves suited up for his first competition in a Kohawks singlet in early December and since then has been involved in 21 matches throughout the season. He wasn’t expected to see as much time his freshman year, but an injury to one of Coe’s heavyweights added more of a load onto his shoulders.

Reeves and the Kohawks began their regular season on December 1 in Wisconsin when they competed against Wisconsin-La Crosse, who was ranked 11th at the time. Reeves was able to make it into the third period before he was pinned, and just like that his college career had begun. He bounced back six days later when they hosted Buena Vista, winning via fall to even up his record.

Reeves flipped a switch after break and brought in 2019 with a hot streak, winning his next three matches. He needed only 55 seconds to win two of the three matches and his third win took just over one minute. He was one of two Kohawks to notch a win against Mount Union, then ranked 6th in the Division.

Reeves ended his season on February 23 when Coe competed against some of the best schools in the Division III Regional Championships in Dubuque. He needed all but 28 seconds to get through his first match in a battle, then advanced to the semifinal with a pin over Robert Melise of Dubuque. Reeves had another battle on his hands when he faced Bowen Wileman of Wartburg and wound up on the short side of an 8-7 decision.
