Richland man killed in accident

Richland, Iowa- A Richland man lost his life in a car vs semi accident Monday afternoon, around 3:20 pm. According to the Iowa State Patrol, 93-year-old Wayne R. Parsons was struck by a semi at the intersection of highway 78 and 315thAve, when authorities say he failed to yield at a stop sign. 

 

Parsons was struck on the driver’s side of his 2008 Mercury Milan by a 2005 Freight tractor trailer, owned by SJM Trucking, of Brighton. An accident report indicates that his vehicle came to rest in a business drive northeast of the intersection. The report also states that Parsons was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the accident. The driver of the semi was not injured in the accident.

 

The accident remains under investigation by the Iowa State Patrol.

 

The Iowa State Patrol was assisted at the scene of the accident by the Keokuk County Sheriff Department, Richland Fire and EMS, Sigourney Fire, Packwood Fire, Iowa DNR, Iowa DOT, and Keokuk County Health Center Ambulance.
