S-K, EV-TC compete in quad duals
SIGOURNEY — Both the Sigourney-Keota Savages and the English Valleys-Tri-County Bears will look back on this past Tuesday’s meet as a measuring stick of sorts, as both teams were bested by Colfax-Mingo in a quad dual matchup.
The Tigerhawks swept the field, going 3-0. The host Savages went 2-1 with wins over EV-TC, 41-34, and Lone Tree, 48-12. The Bears’ lone win came against Lone Tree, 58-9.
S-K’s first dual of the night came against Colfax-Mingo. Aiden Schuster and Gavin Bird got the night started off right for Cory VanDenHeuvel’s team, collecting pins against Shane Aikin and Will Thornton. Sandwiched between those two pins was a forfeit, giving S-K an 18-0 lead to start.
After two forfeits in favor of C-M, a matchup at 113 was one of the more exciting of the entire meet. Noah Strohmeyer of C-M and D.J. Hammes of S-K battled until the final horn of the third period, but Hammes was bested on a 13-10 decision. At that point, the score was 18-15 in favor of the Savages.
