S-K throttles Van Buren, 60-0

KEOSAUQUA — Great teams do what they’re supposed to do — they don’t take any matchup for granted, and they don’t play down to their level of competition. Sigourney-Keota is proving to be not just good, but great, week in and week out. Their undefeated start to 2019 continued with a 60-0 beatdown of Van Buren on Friday.

The puzzle of the Cobra rushing attack has yet to be solved by any opponent through six games. S-K amassed 460 rushing yards to Van Buren’s 86. Seven different Cobras managed to find the end zone via the ground in Keosauqua, with the usual suspects Sam Sieren and J.D. Stout leading the way in terms of yardage. Both eclipsed the 100-yard mark in Week 6.

Though the defense was only able to force a season-low one turnover, it was an impactful one. Just before halftime, senior Payton Schauf busted through the Warrior offensive line and delivered a devastating shot to Van Buren quarterback Lane Davis. The hit jarred the ball loose from Davis’ hand, and the ball was scooped up for a 30-yard score by senior linebacker Trent Hendricks. Big plays like that have fueled the Cobras all season.
