Savages open season runners-up at Ruritan Relays

Packwood - Sigourney boys’ track had several positive results in their first meet of the season on March 25 at the Ruritan Relays. They finished in the top three in eight events, amounting to several wins and 78 team points, taking second place.

The Savages earned some big points in the shot put and discus events, both led by Payton Schauf. He finished runner-up in the shot put with a toss of 39’-8.00” and followed that up by winning the discus with a throw of 137’-11.00”. Mac Conrad also earned some points in the shot put with a fifth-place finish, recording a throw of 37’-8.25”.

Mason Moore followed up his win in the 3200m run at the at the SICL indoor meet with a second-place finish in the event with a time of 10:59.20. He also finished second in the 1600m run, clocking a time of 5:07.86. They got some more help with Tristan Bell and Trent Hendricks in their respective events.

Bell finished third in the 400m hurdles, running a time of 1:04.97 in his first running of the event for the Savages this year. Hs also finished sixth in the 400m dash by running a time of 1:00.62. In addition, Hendricks ran a time of 12.06 seconds in the 100m dash to finish second and earn another eight team points.

The Savages then competed at March 28 at Belle Plaine and then went to Lynnville-Sully on April 2.
