Schauf finishes 13th in Discus at Drake Relays

Des Moines – Payton Schauf was up against the best in the state when he competed at the Drake Relays on April 26 in the Discus. After getting a scratch to start the day, he wound up steadily improving, finishing 13th in the event.

Following a scratch on his first attempt, Schauf bounced back with a throw of 150’-11.00”. It would end up being his best throw of his three attempts on the day.

Schauf ended with his third throw of 145’-2.00” and wound up placing 13th out of 23 competitors from all classes. This was also his first appearance at the Drake Relays in what’s been one of his best years on Sigourney’s track and field team.

Last year he missed out on making it to the Relays but was able to finish out his year at the State meet and is hoping to repeat this year.

Schauf next competed in the SICL meet on April 30 and is scheduled to compete at Montezuma on May 6 before the District meet at Sigourney on May 9.
