SICL Art Show comes to Sigourney

Each year, the South Iowa Cedar League (SICL) rotates their art show alphabetically between its 13-member league, allowing many students and hundreds of art lovers to view what the students have worked on. This season, Sigourney had their turn to display a plethora of student drawings, painting, ceramics and other pieces for the SICL Art Show in the jr/sr high gym on May 11 and 12.

The SICL Art Show was divided into a multitude of categories: ceramics, sculptures, photography, multi-media, fibers, printmaking, painting, drawing and one computer graphics project. All SICL schools-with the exception of North Mahaska-had their talented student artist compete in multiple categories, judged by Sigourney art instructor Rebecca Shaw and other Sigourney teachers, along with one student.

“I walked around with them while I talked about how I wanted to go about this, and they used their best judgment,” Shaw said. “It was really hard to judge because you don’t know what these students went through to get to these final projects. You don’t know if put all their effort into it or if they’re natural at it. Us judges tried to be as fair as possible.”
