Sigourney boys, girls finish second at Keota meet

The Savages and Lady Savages capped off a strong week with each finishing in second place at the Keota XC Invitational at Lagos Acres on September 20. Mason Moore and Tristan Bell helped the boys while Laine Graff and Summer Barthelman led the girls’ team.

“Both teams getting second was a nice little affirmation that we’re improving, and our hard work is paying off,” Sigourney coach Andy Harter said. “I thought we ran pretty well, but we still have a very long way to go.”

Graff and Barthelman finished back to back in 12th and 13th place respectively, with Graff running a time of 26:21 and Barthelman clocking in at 26:42. Megan Stuhr was the next Lady Savage to finish, taking 22nd place with a time of 28:43. Alyssa Landgrebe rounded out the scored group by finishing in 29th place, running a time of 31:01.

Other Lady Savages to compete were Morgan Clubb (31:04) who finished in 30th place and Bree Atwood (35:24) who finished in 38th place. The Lady Savages finished with a score of 63 points, finishing second to Lynnville-Sully.

The boys also had some strong finishes from multiple runners including Moore and Tristan. Moore ran the best time in the boys’ field, clocking in at 19:45, while Tristan wasn’t far behind, finishing in fourth place with a time of 20:39. The next Savage to finish was Dawson Webster, taking 17th place behind a time of 22:31. Jack Ives was the fourth Savage to score, finishing in 23rd place with a time of 23:17.

Other Savages to run were Trace Bell (25:28) who finished in 33rd place, Maltese Thomas (27:26) who finished in 37th place and Ricky Danowsky (29:32) who finished in 41st place. The boys finished with a team score of 60 points, taking second place to Lone Tree.

“We have to use the next few weeks to get better every day,” Harter said. “I think we’re on the right track, we’ve come a long way since August. If we continue on this trajectory, we can accomplish our end of season goals.”

Sigourney’s next competition was at Waterworks Park in Fairfield on September 22, followed by a meet at Washington High School on September 25.
