Sigourney receives sewer improvements grant

SIGOURNEY- The City of Sigourney has received a CDBG to perform improvements at the City’s Wastewater Treatment plant. The grant, which differs from a CDBG façade grant application the city also announced plans to pursue, came after several weeks of prior consideration. According to Tristan Carman, of LS2 Group, the grant is administered by state agencies.

“The Iowa Economic Development Authority awarded the Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) funds to support community water and sewer infrastructure projects. The grants were awarded based on benefit to low-and moderate-income persons, financial need, project impact, and commitment of local resources to the project,” Carman said.

Carman added that cities were required to fit income requirements in order to be considered for the grant.

“When applications are being viewed, they are only eligible for the grant if the project benefits low- and moderate-income persons as defined by the US Department of Housing and Urban Development,” he said.
