Teaching children about Stranger Danger

Throughout the week of Oct. 13, Police Chief Alan Glandon went to Sigourney Preschool and SIEDA to teach the children about Stranger Danger. Children see strangers every day in stores, in the park, and in their neighborhoods. Most of these strangers are nice, normal people, but a few may not be. Parents can protect their children from dangerous strangers by teaching them about strangers and suspicious behavior, and by taking a few precautions of their own.

            A few topics that Alan discussed with each group were: who is a stranger, who is a safe stranger and how recognize and handle a dangerous situation. After Alan went through these topics he asked the children different scenario questions, passed out badge stickers and then took the groups to check out the Police car. Alan explained what the equipment inside the car was and what it was used for.
