Tri-County ousted by Lady Eagles

After losing to Lynnville-Sully on October 8 in the first round of the SICL tournament, the Lady Trojans were hoping to rebound when they played at Keota against the Lady Eagles on October 11. Tri-County wound up losing in three sets to get ousted from Championship contention.

The Lady Eagles put Tri-County in a quick 1-10 hole, leading to a timeout by the Lady Trojans with hopes of stopping Keota’s run and closing the gap. The set continued to go in Keota’s favor as the Lady Eagles were up 21-4 late. Tri-County responded with a couple consecutive points and would end up with seven points won in the set loss.

The second set was much more balanced between the two squads with Tri-County edging out an early lead to build some confidence within the team. Keota responded to take back the lead, but Tri-County hung around throughout the middle stages of the set. Some mistakes allowed Keota’s lead to grow and led to a timeout by Tri-County, down 12-19. A couple more points would go in Tri-County’s favor, but Keota wound up taking the second set 25-14.

The Lady Trojans started the decisive set off well again, staying close early on, but couldn’t get over the hump and swing the momentum. A couple rallies gave the Lady Trojans some hope late, but Keota would finish it out to win it 25-12, sweeping Tri-County and ending their night early.

Jenna Leer led the team with three kills and Emma Miover and Reace Thomas also had one kill apiece. Lauren Molyneux had three assists along with Thomas and Miranda Little each chipping in with one. Molyneux, Leer and Breanna Fogle combined for a perfect 15-15 from the service line, with Thomas recording the team’s lone ace.

The Lady Trojans were placed in another “win or go home” situation when they played Iowa Mennonite on the road in Regional action on October 16.
