Trimpe adds accolade to outstanding high school discus career

Madison Trimpe made her second appearance this year at Drake Stadium, both against top competition from the state. Trimpe finished out her high school career for the Lady Bears by throwing the discus one more time at the State track meet, finishing 18th.

Last year Trimpe was able to accomplish 113’ but came up short in making it to State. This season she not only was a leader on the team, she constantly was finishing near or at the top of each track meet in the field. At the end of April, as the season began to wind down, Trimpe made the select field of girls sent to the Drake Relays with her best throw of the season at 125’.

At the Relays she finished in 13th place, coming just short of her personal record, but coming close to her average on the year. Her best throw in that competition measured at 117’-6.00”. She would have to throw something better to make it to State though, in her final year as a Lady Bear.

On May 10, Trimpe successfully qualified to make it to the State track meet by throwing for 114’-2”, the best toss by any girl at the Waco Districts. She didn’t go out with the bang she hoped but was able to represent English Valleys in front of a crowd that had assembled from across the state.

Trimpe fouled on her first toss, then managed to recover with a throw of 105’-9”. With one throw left to make it to the finals, she would need to record one of her best throws. Unfortunately, she fouled on her last attempt but still managed to finish 18th out of the 24 girls.

While her discus dominance will be needed next season, it might be the leadership she brings to the team that will be needed most when the Lady Bears try to make it back to the State meet next season.
