Trojans come up run shy on road

The Tri-County baseball squad came up just shy of getting a big victory on the road when they played at Montezuma on June 13. A rally from the Trojans had things tied up but the final run was scored by the Braves in the bottom of the seventh to send the Trojans home with a 4-5 loss.

Montezuma got the Tri-County pitching early as they scored two runs in the first and a third run in the second inning. After that point, the Trojans limited Montezuma to two more runs in the remainder of the game. The offense started to click for Tri-County in middle part of the game as they put together two runs in the third and two more in the fourth, giving them a minimal lead for a short time.

Jackson Phillips led off the third with a single, followed by a fielders choice which got Cameron Krumm onto first. Krumm then stole second and scored on a double by Brayden Monroe. Monroe followed suit by stealing third and scored from a single off the bat of Tegon Fogle.

The fourth inning began with Kobe Riffel getting on base via walk and then stealing second to make way for Warren Williams to get onto first from an infield hit, which also advanced Riffel to third. A passed ball sent Riffel home and Williams was credited with stealing second. Williams got even closer from another passed ball and scored on a fly ball.

Montezuma responded with a run in the bottom of the fourth which tied the game at four. Neither team managed to score until Montezuma got a walk-off single in the bottom of the seventh to bring home the last run.

Trojan leaders: Brayden Monroe/Tegon Fogle/Aydan Bos/Jackson Phillips – 1 hit, Cameron Krumm/Brayden Monroe/Kobe Williams/Warren Williams – 1 run, Cameron Krumm/Brayden Monroe/Tegon Fogle – 1 RBI, Cameron Krumm/Aydan Bos – 2 SB, Brayden Monroe – 2 Ks

The Trojans ended the week off at home against BGM on June 15 and started the next week off on the road at Iowa Valley on June 18 and hosted Sigourney on June 20.
