Two area girls make All-State list, three others Honorable Mentions

Even though they didn’t make it to the state tournament, the Lady Savages had two of their outgoing seniors recognized for their successes on the diamond. Autum Barthelman and Madison Schauf were named on the All-State teams accompanied by Jordan VanEe being named an honorable mention. Audrey Grove and Karyssa Westfall from English Valleys were also named honorable mentions.

First Team

Autum Barthelman (Sigourney, Sr) – Speed played a big factor in the numbers that Autum Barthelman recorded in her final year at Sigourney. Most notably, she was successful on all 42 stolen base attempts while getting on base 57 times. Barthelman had 45 hits and scored 43 times while driving in another 26 runs. She ended her season with a .719 slugging percentage and a .564 on base percentage.

Second Team

Madi Schauf (Sigourney, Sr) – The Lady Savages had power throughout their lineup and as the cleanup hitter, Madi Schauf put up some big numbers. She led the team with 50 runs driven in and recorded 43 hits, 13 doubles and four which went for home runs. Her power led to a .791 slugging percentage and a .500 batting average, second highest on the team.

Honorable Mention

Jordan VanEe (Sigourney, Jr) – Primarily known for her pitching success, Jordan VanEe had some highlights at the plate as well. She had 19 hits on the season with three of them leaving the yard, the only times she wound up scoring. On the mound, VanEe totaled 136 2/3 innings pitched and an 18-6 record in 25 starts. She struck out 109 batters in the process and finished up with a 1.64 earned run average.

Audrey Grove (English Valleys, Sr) – Known for her size and power, Audrey Grove continued to spray the ball around the field and hit home runs throughout the season. Eight of her 23 hits on the year were home runs and she wound up driving in 27 runs while scoring 20 times. She finished with a 1.140 slugging percentage and a .535 batting average. In a five-game span during mid-June, Grove hit four home runs and drove in eight runs in those games.

Karyssa Westfall (English Valleys, So) – Despite the power Grove displayed, it was Karyssa Westfall who led the team with 28 hits and five doubles. Westfall scored 18 times and drove in nine more runs. She also was successful on 14 of 15 stolen base attempts, ending up with a .468 on base percentage. She was second on the team with a .541 slugging percentage and a .459 batting average.
