Wright opens Sigourney Heating and Air

Spencer Wright of Sigourney will open his new business “Sigourney Heating and Air conditioning”, having purchased Myles Miller Refrigeration, and is ready to bring a new face to the local trade.

“When I was considering what I wanted to do with my life, I looked at things Sigourney didn’t have or didn’t have enough of to be sustainable,” Wright, a 2009 graduate of Sigourney High School said. “I knew I wanted to go into a skilled trade”. Industry wide, Including Sigourney, there is a shortage of qualified Heating and air conditioning installers and service technicians.

Wright’s journey to becoming a business owner began in April of 2013, when he began his apprenticeship in Ottumwa on this career path. Though other trades initially interested him, Wright found success in his apprenticeship and continues on.

“I started looking for opportunities in business. Because of the requirement of an apprenticeship with someone in the trade before obtaining your own license,” Wright said. “I went to work in Ottumwa for Hindman/Person, and did an apprenticeship with them. I also worked with PHCC, who have a program developed with the Dept. of labor, to improve my skills. Now, I can continue towards my Masters licenses working and improving my skills with the aid of a longtime tradesman in Sigourney”. Myles will continue work with Spencer, allowing him to grow his skills and learn the customers in the area.
