Anderson finishes third, Bears wrestling season ends at districts

WILTON – They were close, but not close enough. 

The English Valleys wrestling season came to a close Saturday at the district tournament as none of their wrestlers were able to qualify for the State tournament. 

Braydon Anderson was one of the closest wrestlers to make it. He finished third in the 150-pound weight class. 

Anderson started off his day with a tech fall over his quarterfinal opponent. In the semifinals Anderson battled a Wilton wrestler, but was pinned late in the second period. 

Anderson recovered and needed just 49 seconds to pin his consolation semifinal opponent. In the third place match Anderson pinned a Highland opponent in 1:11.

That sent Anderson to the second-place match with an opportunity to go to State. Battling West Branch’s Keaton Gates, Anderson battled, but was pinned in 2:47, which ended his season. Overall he was 21-15 on the season. 

Cael Grove was able to finish fourth in the 113-pound division. 

Groce won his quarterfinal match with a pin over a Durant opponent in 1:20. In the semifinals Grove was pinned  in 3:20.

Grove needed just 64 seconds to win his consolation semifinal match over a Regina opponent. In the third place match Grove battled a West Branch opponent, but was pinned early in the third  period. 

Grove finishes the season with a 26-14 record. 

Noah Armstong wrestled in the 120-pound division. He was pinned and suffered a tech fall. He finishes the year at 10-19. Hunter Offerman wrestled at 132-poinds. Offerman was pinned in the second period of the quarterfinals. He then tech falled his first consolation round opponent. In  the consolation semifinals Offerman fell to a tech fall. He was  22-19 this year.

Jack Osborn wrestled at 144 pounds. He won his first match with a pin in 3:03. In the quarterfinals Osborn was pinned in 3:33. After winning the first consolation match with a first period pin, Osborn was defeated by tech fall in the consolation semifinals. He was 6-21 this year. 

Teagen Mast was pinned twice in the first period at 157-pounds. His record was 17-21 this year. 

Ben Coffman finished the day 1-2 at 175-pounds. He was 21-19 this year. Kaleb Bolinger wrestled at 215-pounds. He was 1-2 and finished the year 19-18 overall.
