The athlete of the week for the week of July 15 is Ella Bruns of the Sigourney Savages softball team.

Bruns’ red hot bat boosted the Savages to the 2024 State Tournament with two clutch hits. She led off the bottom of the seventh with a triple, and would score the tying run to send the game to extra innings.

She once again stepped up to the plate with a chance to play the hero in the bottom of the eleventh inning. Bruns bounced one up the middle, and pushed the Savages to the 2024 Class 1A State Tournament.

The News-Review would like to congratulate Sigourney’s Ella Bruns on a spectacular week of play.
