SIGOURNEY – A report from the state auditor’s office released June 27 found few problems with the City of Sigourney. The report recommended the city work to have better segregation of duties and begin performing monthly bank and utility reconciliations, but no major problems were found. The report did note a possible conflict of interest regarding the city’s frequent hiring of Atwood Electric, due to Atwood being owned by Councilwoman Stephanie Lentz’s family. However, according to City Clerk Angela Alderson, the city has been working with Atwood since before Lentz was born. According to Alderson, the city frequently works with Atwood because they have the best equipment out of electricians in the area and because they respond to emergencies quickly. Lentz has not voted on any motions specific to her family’s company, but has approved invoices via the consent agenda.
