RICHLAND – A benefit was held on Jan. 6 at Mother Cabrini Hall for John Bob Capps, a firefighter and recently elected Mayor of Richland diagnosed with cancer, put on by friends of Capps. Money from the meal and silent auction will go towards Capps’s expenses during and after treatment. The benefit drew a packed house.

“Treatments are going fine. I’m working through everything and doing what I gotta do. I’ll be alright,” said Capps. “I’m overwhelmed and it’s extremely humbling that my guys on the fire department would do this for me. All these people, it’s beyond words. I’m beyond grateful.”

Capps has finished with radiation therapy and is scheduled to be done with chemotherapy at the end of February, at which point he will undergo a surgery that should leave him in remission.
