Christmas Week Thefts
SIGOURNEY – The Grinch arrived in Sigourney a few days before Christmas to take treasured items right from the front porches of homes.
Between 9 p.m. on Monday evening Dec. 21 and 5:30 a.m. on Tuesday. Dec. 22, Staci White’s Nakto Electric Bike was stolen from her front porch in the 300 block of Ringgold Street on the north side of Sigourney. Although the recording is dark, the theft was recorded by a doorbell camera. Staci’s bike is white with a wicker basket on the front and is identical to the one pictured with this article. It is valued at about $700.
The next night between 7:30 p.m. and 8 a.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 23, Megan Clark reported her son’s 20” Kent bicycle with orange rims had been taken from her front porch in the 100 block of South Stuart Street in central Sigourney. The bike was purchased new at the end of October 2020 and had been “customized” by her son who had replaced one of the hand brakes with a red brake, added a loop chain on the front, put orange pegs on the front wheel and black pegs on the back. A headlight and taillight were added as well as reflectors to the wheel spokes. The bike is valued at about $90.
Both bikes are distinctive and have been posted in some of the area buy/sell online organizations as “STOLEN - Do Not Buy”.
The bicycle thefts were reported to Sigourney police along with one additional attempted theft of a trailer being broken into in the 200 block of North Shuffleton Street between 7:10 p.m. and 7:40 p.m. on Tuesday, December 22. Nothing was taken from the trailer.
If you have any information regarding any of these incidents, or if you see either of the bikes in person or for sale somewhere please report it to the Keokuk County Sheriff’s department at 641-622-2727.
