City of New Sharon Announces Closures Due to COVID-19

NEW SHARON – In accordance with directives and recommendations from Governor Reynolds, the Iowa Department of Public Health, and the Center for Disease Control the City of New Sharon effective Thursday, March 19, will close the Stilwell Public Library, the New Sharon City Park Building, and the New Sharon City Hall for at least the next 4-weeks, at which time the situation will be revaluated. During this time all related library and recreation activities and programs will be cancelled or postponed. More details will be provided on Facebook and the respective websites.

The Library, starting Thursday March 19, will provide a curbside pick-up service. More information regarding the curbside service will be released this week. The Library will be staffed noon to 5 p.m. Monday-Friday and will answer calls and emails. All due dates for library items will be extended 30 days and there will be no penalties for overdue items during this extended closure. Please watch our Facebook page for further information.

Any current reservations for events during this 4-week period at the New Sharon City Park Building will be refunded. City Park restrooms will remain closed for the duration of the COVID-19 closures and Park staff will not be able to clean/sanitize park equipment so individuals should take appropriate hand washing/sanitizing measures after any use.

City Hall will be closed to the public however, staff will be available from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. most days Monday-Friday. Please put all payments and materials for the city hall in the red drop box on the pillar by the front door. All other City services will continue as usual as much as possible, although only essential meetings will be held (public postings and notification will continue per usual). These measures are to ensure City employees can continue to provide emergency and essential municipal services, and to protect New Sharon citizens from the COVID-19 Virus as much as practicable.
