Cobras Beat Comets 68-8, Win Class 1A District 6 Title

“We battled adversity, didn’t play up to snuff, we weren’t playing our brand of football,” Coach Jensen said about the Cobras having a 13-8 point lead after the first quarter of play.

However, the second quarter was back to Cobra code as they rattled off 29 points.

“This is our first district championship in ten years, these guys have put in so much work to get to this point. The future is bright,”
Jensen said.

Levi Crawford returned Cardinal’s punt with 9:46 left in the third quarter for the first score of the second half. Matt Brainard had a scoop and score touchdown for 25 yards with 8:55 left in the third quarter to get another Cobra touchdown.

“I’m really proud of this team, we’ve come a long way. Offense, defense, special teams, we’re doing really well,” Duwa said of the
performance of his Cobra teammates.

Sigourney-Keota got their last score with 5:06 remaining in the game to make the final tally 68-8.

“I’m kind of sad about it (the final score not being 69-8) honestly, I’ll make sure Evan (Vittetoe) has a hard time about it,” Duwa said with a smile on his face.

As a team, the Cobras had 461 yards on the ground on 47 carries, scoring five touchdowns. Aerially, the Cobras went 5⁄8 on passes for three touchdowns and 169 yards. Next up, the Cobras have a First Round bye in the playoffs, but on Oct. 23 they will face the winner of Pekin - Cardinal.
