Danny Paul Greiner, 97

KEOTA-Danny Paul Greiner, age 97, passed away at University of Iowa Hospital on September 17, 2024.

Mr. Greiner was born to William Joseph and Margaret Cecelia (Rettler) Greiner on August 25, 1927, the second of three children.  Until he entered U.S. Army service as a Tank Commander in Korea, he assisted his father with the family farm near Talleyrand, south of Keota, Iowa.  On June 2, 1953, he married Hazel Lucille Whitaker and resided near rural Keota until he purchased his own farm north of Richland.  After a brief residence in Washington, the two of them purchased a different farm south of Brighton where they remained.  Mr. Greiner was passionate about working on old cars, tractors and other equipment.  He enjoyed attending auctions, the Old Threshers Reunion and volunteering at the Polishville Community Center dances until the events ceased.  He was fond of birds, dogs and cats and held many as pets over the years.  He was a lifelong farmer until his retirement.  

Mr. Greiner is survived by his wife of 71 years, Hazel, a son Paul, a daughter Becky, three grandchildren and four great grandchildren.  He was preceded in death by his parents and his siblings.



Funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, September 20, 2024, at Powell Funeral Home in Keota, with Fr. Bernie Weir officiating.  Burial will be at Holy Trinity Cemeteries - St. Elizabeth Cemetery in Harper.  Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, September 19, 2024, at the funeral home.
