Don Henry Barnhart, 87

Don Henry Barnhart, 87, died November 28, 2024 at the Manor House in Sigourney, Iowa surrounded by his family. He was born June 18, 1937 to Harris and Gertrude (Stokesberry) Barnhart. He was the youngest of six siblings. 

During his lifetime he attended Sigourney Country School and had many stories to tell his grandchildren of his ornery year with his friends. His best years were his 20’s, and he loved to laugh with others about the mischief he would get into. On October 6, 1956 Don married Delores Strasser in Keswick. They welcomed four children into the world: Debbie, Vickie, Connie and Bryan.

Don worked for John Deere for 31 years. He loved his job as “Barney the planter and combine guy”. He worked under Dick Starry and Russell Aldinger, and later on Ron Schott. Before he retired he drove around farms delivering parts for John Deere. After retirement, he enjoyed his work at home with Barney Custom Farm Toys. This hobby allowed him to customize toy tractors by adding special features to them. His toys sold on the internet and local auctions. Some tractors sold as far away as Germany. He preferred green but would bite his tongue and do a red one once in a while.  In 2017 they moved into Deer View Assisted living. He enjoyed living close to his two sisters, Jean and Luetta. He looked forward to chats with visiting family, and the staff that took care of him.

He is survived by his wife Delores, daughters Debbie Frazier of Des Moines, Vickie (Tom) Webb of Sigourney, Connie (Mark) Flanegin of Sigourney, son Bryan (Kris) Barnhart of Monticello, 13 grandchildren Tammy Klett, Chad Klett, Jesse Frazier, Tyler Frazier, Aaron Frazier, Michele Sieren, Eric Webb, Ashley Rash, Racheal Ohrt, William Flanegin, Kolton Krob, Alex Fear and Gabi Barnhart. 23 great-grandchildren, 2 great- great grandchildren and his sister Luetta Kracht.

He was preceded in death by his parents, step-mother Freda Stroud Barnhart, sister Ruth Barnhart, two brother and sister-in laws Dean and Audrey Barnhart, Dale and Helen Barnhart, sister and brother- in -law Jean and Dean Appleget and brother-in-law Leroy Kracht and several nieces and nephews.

Arrangements Holm Funeral Home

Visitation: Sunday December 1, 2024, from 1:00 to 4:00 P.M. at the Holm Funeral Home.
Funeral service: Monday December 2, 2024 10:30 A.M. Sigourney Christian Church.
Burial: Garrett Cemetery near Delta.
